Self-portrait_child abuse

Description

2D Design project. Creating a self-portrait using the collage technique and revealing something personal about yourself. I used a baby photo of myself. My concept was a dark past of child abuse. I made an ink drawing, used my fingerprints as texture, and I put a poem that I wrote on trace paper in the background. I no longer see myself as a victim but a survivor.

If you can't read my handwriting some lines from my poem are the following:

"I received a token of love crafted into the shape of a boxing glove. The wounds heal but the scars last a lifetime. Trapped and beaten...broken inside. These feelings come like the ocean's tide. Consumed by sadness, hurt, and pain. My soul stays lonely with nothing to gain."

Hey!
I think that your piece is very nicely done. I like how you used text in magazines as your middle-ground, black as your background (border), and you tore pieces to create the baby. I also like the application and color of the paint. It makes it easier for the viewer (me included) to understand what the overall theme is. For example, the red on the painting symbolizes blood and death; the torn pieces of paper (the baby) might represent how torn apart the child or family is. It could also mean that the baby doesn't know what is reality and what is not. Last but not least, the black and white colors mainly used in this piece can represent a world without color. A world without color would be a world without happiness or love.

Gosh, I feel bad I wrote so much- I'm bad at expalining things without many words. But, I hope this critique was as great as your painting! I can't wait to see more of your work! Have a wonderful day! :flowerpot:
